At Riverstone, we know our residents carry a lifetime of experiences, stories, and lessons worth sharing. That is why we are excited to launch Wisdom Wednesdays, a new series where we sit down with a resident every two weeks and ask them a thoughtful question. Each conversation invites them to reflect on meaningful moments from their past or share advice shaped by their life experiences.
This series is close to our hearts because we believe in celebrating the voices and perspectives of our residents. Their wisdom is a gift, and we want to share it with not only our communities but also with families, friends, and anyone who loves hearing stories that inspire and connect.
You will be able to watch each new installment in our Wisdom Wednesdays Playlist.
Our First Wisdom Wednesday: Phyllis’ Story
We are kicking off the series with Phyllis, who answered the question: “What is a decision that shaped your life — even if it did not seem important at the time?”
Phyllis reflected on her younger years, right after graduating from Grade 13, when she was not quite sure which path to take. She applied to two very different schools: Normal School (Teacher’s College) and the National Research Council, where she could work as a lab technician.
She was accepted into both, but ultimately chose Teachers’ College. Looking back, that single decision shaped her life in remarkable ways. Not only did it lead her to a career she loved, but it is also where she met her husband. What seemed like a simple choice at the time turned out to be one of the most pivotal moments in her journey.
You can watch Phyllis tell her story in her own words by clicking play on the video above, or you can watch it here. Hearing her reflect on this moment brings her wisdom to life in a way only she can share.
Stories like Phyllis’ remind us how small decisions can change the course of a life and how much wisdom there is to be found in looking back.
We are looking forward to sharing more stories like this every other Wednesday. Stay tuned, because you will not want to miss the incredible insights our residents have to offer.
